Pete Doherty, singer and guitarist of The Libertines, has revealed he's battling Type 2 Diabetes and says he fears 'death is lurking'.
The 44-year-old musician has often spoken openly about his struggles with alcohol and drug misuse, admitting they ruled his life for years before a calming lifestyle change. Speaking to the BBC's Louis Theroux in a documentary last year, Pete said his past had left him unwell and doubtful that we would live a long life. He's distanced himself from his wild past and now leads a mostly sober and quiet life in Normandy, France. However, years of substance and alcohol abuse have left their mark on his body. Last year, in the BBC's Louis Theroux Interviews series, Pete invited the documentarian into his quaint home in the small town of Etretat in rural France, where he lives with his wife and Puta Madres bandmate Katia de Vidas, and their six-month-old daughter, Billie-May.
In the documentary, Pete and Louis were filmed chatting when the musician starts to cough, clutching his chest and groaning in pain. After Louis expressed his concern, Pete explained: "You are looking at a very sick man. I've battered it, haven't I, I've f***ing
