Thania Garcia Peso Pluma will be releasing his new album, “Genesis,” on June 22 via his own record label Double P Records, in partnership with Prajin Music Group. The record comes in the midst of a breakout year for 23-year-old música Mexicana artist whose corrido ballads have occupied top slots on global charts — namely his and Eslabon Armado’s “Ella Baila Sola,” which made history as the first regional Mexican song to enter the top five of the Billboard Hot 100 in April. The new set features collaborations with other Mexican hitmakers such as Natanael Cano and Junior H, along with Puerto Rican rapper Eladio Carrión and many others. See the complete tracklist below.
“We’ve been working on the album for a year now and I’ve been producing it for a while,” Peso Pluma said to Variety of the new project. “It’s an album of all Mexican music that’s almost ready. We have plans in place to release it later this summer and I’m also working to release some singles in the urban space very, very soon.”
Peso Pluma’s most recent release was a dem bow single alongside El Alfa called “Plebada,” as he’s released mostly collaborations and singles since his second LP, “Efectos Secundarios,” dropped in 2021. His first complete body of music was a 12-song album called “Ah y Qué?” released in April 2020 but his popularity has only skyrocketed since. In April, shortly before scoring his first Billboard Hot 100 entry, Peso Pluma also made his Coachella debut on the main stage with Becky G. That same month, Peso Pluma became one of the five most-listened-to artists on Spotify, alongside Bad Bunny, Drake, Taylor Swift and the Weeknd. “Genesis” Tracklist:

Peso Pluma is throwing gasoline onto the fire of his overnight superstardom with Génesis, a brand new album. Announced last week, the third LP from the Mexican artist sports the songs “Rosa Pastel” featuring Jasiel Núñez, “ “77” featuring Eladio Carrión, and “Bye.” The project comes as Pluma reigns as a leader of corridos tumbados, a strain of regional Mexican music lightly influenced by Latin trap.
Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Singer-songwriter Brandy Clark has enjoyed triumphs recently on two fronts. Ten years of work on the score for her first Broadway musical, “Shucked,” paid off with a Tony nomination and a Drama Desk Award win for her and score co-writer Shane McAnally. And the Nashville resident’s self-titled fourth album, which found her friend Brandi Carlile moving into the producer’s chair, got the kind of great reviews that augur for more Grammy nominations (on top of the 10 nods she’s already picked up over the years). While she was making one of her many visits to New York, Variety caught up with her for a Facetime feature to discuss both her new Warner Records album, one of the year’s best, and the hit musical, which has a cast album of its own. The joint timing is coincidental, of course (“Shucked” was originally tagged for a 2020 opening, with an out-of-town run in D.C. that was just about to begin when the pandemic kicked in). That she gets to talk about two home runs at once makes her career seem far from anything that ends in “-ucked,” unless lucked applies.

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Netflix’s controversial reality competition show based on its smash South Korean drama “Squid Game” will finally debut in November, and the streamer offered up a very brief glimpse of reality show “Squid Game: The Challenge” on Saturday during its global, virtual Tudum fan event from Brazil. “The world’s most notorious game becomes reality,” the teaser clip says, before showing contestants exiting their rooms and heading to the game of “Red Light Green Light” — featuring the giant, killer doll that in the scripted “Squid Game” swivels its head around and fires gunshots to eliminate players who were moving. The unscripted game show, which was first announced in June 2022, was shot across two studios in the U.K. and produced by Studio Lambert and The Garden. Like the series, 456 contestants were cast (in this case, from around the world) to compete in various challenges based on the Korean children’s games featured on the show, as well as new games. The winner receives a $4.56 million cash prize.
