Carole Horst “Top Chef” last won an Emmy in the competition category in 2010 (it won an editing Emmy in 2008) but it’s been shut out of wins for too many years.  Until “RuPaul’s Drag Race” took over the reality competition category, trophies tended to go to the most familiar — albeit well-crafted options — rather than the best shows.   Now, reality competition is, well, super competitive. Last year’s winner, “Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls,” was an empowering and joyful series that captured the mood of America, while nominees such as “Nailed It!,” and perpetual nominees “The Voice,” “The Amazing Race” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” crowd out worthies such as “Making the Cut,” “Next in Fashion,” “American Ninja Warrior,” “Dancing With the Stars,” “America’s Got Talent” and any number of Gordon Ramsay cooking series. (For that matter, many Food Network series fail to make the cut as well.)

HBO show Perry Mason are expressing their upset online that the “underrated” show has been cancelled.The drama starring Matthew Rhys as the title character has been canceled after two seasons. The series, which was a new iteration of the classic courtroom show of the ’50s and ’60s, was produced by Robert Downey Jr.’s ‘Team Downey’.The cancellation was confirmed in a statement from HBO, which read: “We are tremendously grateful for the remarkable work of Matthew Rhys and the unrivalled cast and crew of Perry Mason for their reimagining of such a treasured and storied franchise.“While we won’t be moving forward with another season of the series, we are excited to continue working with the brilliant creatives at Team Downey on future projects.”Perry Mason premiered in June 2020 and Rhys went on to earn an Emmy nomination for his lead role.

Unlike the 1950’s TV series in which Mason worked as a lawyer, the HBO series portrays the character earlier in his life when he is a private investigator in Los Angeles in the 1930s.

Ethel Cain show in Sydney was cancelled just three songs in after the singer fainted on stage.Cain was in the middle of performing ‘A House In Nebraska’ (via Setlist.fm) at the Drama Theatre in Sydney Opera house when she suddenly collapsed. The show was then paused while the venue staff investigated the situation, before it was later cancelled.

Lakshmi’s news arrives just a week before the Season 20 finale. “After much soul searching, I have made the difficult decision to leave ‘Top Chef,'” Lakshmi wrote in a statement. “Having completed a glorious 20th season as host and executive producer, I am extremely proud to have been part of building such a successful show and of the impact it has had in the worlds of television and food.” “After 17 years, many of the cast and crew are like family to me and I will miss working alongside them dearly,” she continued. “I feel it’s time to move on and need to make space for ‘Taste the Nation,’ my books and other creative pursuits.
