A parole hearing for a rapist who beat and drugged his victim while holding her captive for 12 hours will take place in private, the Parole Board has said.
Carmarni Crawford, 31, was jailed for 12 years with six years on licence in 2015 for the harrowing attack at a flat in Macclesfield, Cheshire. He sent a series of text messages to his sister bragging about the crime, a court was told when he was previously sentenced.
Crawford forced his victim to take a large amount of prescription medication in a bid to keep her drugged for two days until a post office opened, so he could steal money from her account, but she managed to escape when he fell asleep.

Chairman of the Parole Board for England and Wales, Caroline Corby, said on Wednesday (January 3) that Crawford has a health condition that may mean a public hearing affects his ability to give evidence. She also found that there were no features of the case that would further public understanding of the parole system.
However, she invited the victim to contact the Parole Board should she wish to attend the private hearing, to see if that can be arranged.
A trial is being carried out in the South West in which victims are able to attend private hearings, and this is expected to be rolled out across England and Wales during 2024.
Ms Corby said: “I have the deepest sympathy for the victim and I cannot imagine the devastating effects that these offences have had on them.
“However, although this case of rape and other offences is very distressing, there are no particular features which set it apart from other sexual offending cases which would aid the public’s understanding of the parole
