Outlander's Lauren Lyle is among those cast as part of the forthcoming factual drama Lockerbie. The six-part series will focus on the harrowing events of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing.
More than three decades ago now, and still widely regarded as the deadliest terror attack in British history, Pan Am Flight 103 from London to New York exploded over the Scottish town.
The series focusing on the disaster will be broadcast on both the BBC and Netflix, with the full casting now announced. Sex Education star Connor Swindells, Suits actor Patrick J. Adams and Unbelievable's Merritt Wever are among those appearing.
Also cast is Ozark's Peter Mullan, Mayflies Tony Curran and The Pact's Eddie Marsan. Filming is now underway in Scotland, with the series also exploring the joint Scots-US investigation which sought to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Lockerbie disaster killed 270 people, including 43 British citizens and 190 Americans. The series will focus on the investigation into the crash on both sides of the Atlantic and the devastating effect it had on the small town and the families who lost loved ones.
From the initial exhaustive search for evidence on the ground in Scotland, via the US and Malta to the trial at Camp Zeist in 2000, the drama takes viewers right up to the most recent indictment at the end of 2022.
The lead writer is acclaimed novelist and screenwriter Jonathan Lee, with two episodes written by Scottish screenwriter Gillian Roger Park. It's produced by World Productions in association with MGM Television and Night Train Media.
