Oscars 2020: Everything you need to know about winner Parasite

After Parasite’s historic success at the 2020 Oscars, the world soon may be seeing more of the film’s now-beloved ensemble cast. The various actors who comprised the film’s wealthy Park family and the plucky, impoverished Kims were each already big stars at home in South Korea.

It was Bong Joon-ho's night as his masterpiece Parasite dominated at the Oscars 2020 and picked up not one or two, but four Academy Awards. Parasite won the Oscar for Best Picture, the Academy Award for Directing for Bong, International Feature Film and Original Screenplay for Bong and Kwak Sin-ae. The reason why the Best Picture win, in particular, is so monumental is that it's the first South Korean and more significantly non-English language film to be honoured with the prestigious award.

As Korean cinema was the big winner at the 2020 Academy Awards thanks to the historic sweep from Parasite and director Bong Joon Ho, naturally there was a little bit of K-pop included in the celebrations.A.C.E was on hand to perform at the Oscar afterparty for Parasite at taking place at Soho House in Los Angeles.

One of the prestigious nights for Hollywood, the Oscar Awards 2020 was held on February 10 at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and the who’s who of the world of cinema were a part of it. As a part of tradition, the Oscar award for the Original Song was to be presented this year too. However, before that the Original Song Montage was presented in which Indian composer AR Rahman’s 2009 hit track, ‘Jai Ho’ from Slumdog Millionaire found its mention. 

The 92nd Academy Awards show ended on a high note. Parasite was undeniably the star of the awards show this year as it bagged four major awards, including Best Picture and Best Director (presented to Bong Joon Ho.) While the South Korean drama brought the Dolby Theatre down with their wins, Oscar 2020 played witness to some powerful speeches.

To say that it was a monumental night, in Oscars' history, would be an understatement! And, we have Bong Joon-ho to thank for that! With his brilliant film Parasite, the filmmaker made history at Oscars 2020 as not just the first South Korean movie but the first non-English language film to ever take home the coveted Oscar for Best Picture. The South Korean thriller landed the top prize on Hollywood's big night, taking a total of four honours, including Best Director for Bong Joon Ho. It was also named Best International Feature, and Best Original Screenplay, an accolade Bong shared with Han Jin Won.
