A nurse who died of tuberculosis after being exposed to the Victorian disease while volunteering on an NHS ward should have been warned of the exposure months earlier, a coroner has ruled in a damning report.
Carrianne Franks, 30, found out less than 24 hours before she died that she had contracted TB.
The day before her death she sent a worried text to her parents after she was finally diagnosed to say: "Mum, they found out what I have. I've got TB." Her family were unable to say goodbye as she was quickly placed in a coma in intensive care, where she died.
Her devastated parents Chris and Bev Franks are now calling on more to be done to protect the people who are caring for others throughout the country's hospitals, the Mirror reports.

It was here in November 2020 that she worked on the same ward as a patient with TB. Months later Carrianne was treated at both Lincoln Hospital and Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop over a nine-week period but was tested for TB so late she could not be saved.
Her parents told the Mirror they want NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines updated to prevent any other healthcare worker dying. The guidelines say only those in contact with a TB patient for eight hours should be given a letter warning them about the risks.
