Twitter Says Elon Musk is Under Federal Investigation in New Court Filing

According to CNN, the court filing didn’t provide any details about the investigation, saying only that it is related to Musk’s “conduct” related to the deal. But Twitter also accuses Musk’s lawyers of failing to cooperate with requests from both the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Federal Trade Commission to provide information related to the lawsuit Musk is fighting that aims to force him to honor the deal to buy the social media company.According to Reuters, Twitter accuses Musk’s lawyers of invoking “investigative privilege” in their refusal to comply.Musk struck deal earlier this year to buy Twitter for $44 billion, but very soon after attempted to break the agreement, citing unproven claims of fraudulent data about Twitter’s subscriber count.

‘Rust’ Civil Settlement Has No Impact on Possible Criminal Charges, D.A. Says

Gene Maddaus Senior Media Writer The settlement of the wrongful death lawsuit in the “Rust” shooting will have no effect on the district attorney’s consideration of criminal charges, the D.A.’s office said Wednesday. The producers of “Rust,” including Alec Baldwin, announced a settlement on Wednesday morning with Matthew Hutchins, the husband of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The producers intend to resume production of the film in January. “The proposed settlement announced today in Matthew Hutchins’ wrongful death case against ‘Rust’ movie producers, including Alec Baldwin, in the death of Halyna Hutchins will have no impact on District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies’ ongoing investigation or her ultimate decision whether to file criminal charges in the case,” said Heather Brewer, a spokeswoman for the D.A.’s office. “While civil suits are settled privately and often involve financial awards, criminal cases deal only in facts. If the facts and evidence warrant criminal charges under New Mexico law then charges will be brought. No one is above the law.”

NATPE Will File for Bankruptcy, Citing COVID and Dwindling Reserves

Gene Maddaus Senior Media Writer The National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE), which holds trade shows for the TV industry, announced on Monday that it will file for bankruptcy. The organization said the pandemic had forced it to cancel its flagship events, leading to a drop in revenues and requiring it to draw on reserves. A bankruptcy filing was expected as soon as Tuesday. NATPE said it will restructure under Chapter 11, and that it still plans to hold its annual conference on Jan. 17-19, 2023, in the Bahamas. “NATPE is looking at all possible options to restructure, including raising funds through strategic alliances, and continue to operate NATPE as a more streamlined and reorganized operation,” the group said in a statement. “For almost 60 years, NATPE has been the leading global professional association for content producers, distributors, developers, streamers and buyers across all distribution platforms. NATPE is optimistic that it will emerge from the reorganization process in the same position.”
