'My husband said it was the biggest mistake but now we have our £900,00 dream'

Although the idea of creating your dream home can sound very appealing, home renovations are not to be taken lightly. As well as the amount of time, money and patience it takes, you can often come across unexpected problems that you cannot prepare for.
But if you stick at it, most homeowners find that renovating is extremely rewarding - not only when you look back at the transformation in itself but because of the sheer value that you can add to your property. Angela Morelis, 51, has recently completely a major renovation on her four-bed home in Crewe, Cheshire - and managed to double its value from £450,000 to an impressive £899,000 in the process.
It didn't come without its challenges though, as when Angela and her husband, who are from South Africa, first bought the 'horrible' home back in 2018, he said it was 'the biggest mistake we’d ever made in our lives'. Angela spoke to the Manchester Evening News as part of our Where I Live series, where each week we chat to a different homeowner about their buying and renovation journey; whilst looking inside their home.

Angela, her husband, their four children and Angela's mum moved over from South Africa to the UK back in 2012 to escape the country's increasing crime, as they hoped for a better and safer life for their children. “The crime was just getting out of control in South Africa and for our children’s future we thought it would be a better opportunity for them to live in the UK," Angela said.
