‘My Brilliant Friend’ Team on Expanding the Scope and Vision of Season 2

After years of living in the posh central L.A. neighborhood of Hancock Park, YouTube superstar Lilly Singh has finally decided to join many of her fellow content creators in suburban bliss — way over yonder on the other side of ye olde hill, so to speak. The Canadian comedian has packed her things and hightailed it out to the San Fernando Valley, where she’s purchased a brand-new, $4.1 million residential retreat.

When he’s not busy playing for the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin-based NFL star David Bakhtiari and his partner Frankie Shebby usually spend offseasons in his native California. And now the offensive tackle — currently signed to a four-year, $48 million contract extension — has chosen to put down some real estate roots in balmy Los Angeles, where he’s selected a brand-new, $3.9 million estate.

In a series of actions taken today – featuring a live broadcast on Twitter — California Gov. Gavin Newsom sent a letter outlining his requests for assistance from the federal government in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic including a request to President Donald Trump asking him to order the immediate deployment of the USNS Mercy Hospital Ship to the Port of Los Angeles through Sept. 1, 2020, to help decompress the state’s health care system which experts fear will be completely overwhelmed.

In order to stop the spread of coronavirus, millions of Americans are following the advice, or orders, of public health authorities and staying home. We don’t know how long this crisis will last, but we know that if we stay home and slow the spread of the virus, we can avert the worst outcomes that would swamp our hospital system completely and result in significant death tolls.

In the wake of dozens of film and television productions abruptly shutting down amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, several organizations and high-profile showrunners — Greg Berlanti, Shonda Rhimes, David Benioff, Julie Plec, Damon Lindelof, Lisa Joy and Jonah Nolan — have come together to fund a relief effort for Hollywood’s support staffers, a low-paid group that often goes overlooked.

The premise of My Brilliant Friend — both Elena Ferrante's celebrated Neapolitan Novels and the Italian TV adaptation thereof — is largely sociological. Two girls in midcentury Naples, gifted with intellect and ambition, diverge dramatically in their paths when one, Elena (Margherita Mazzucco), is permitted to continue her formal education, and the other, Lila (Gaia Girace), is forced to end hers after elementary school.

Ride ’em, cowgirl! Susan Lucci was more than ready to take on riding a mechanical bull during her appearance on The Dr. Oz Show one month ago and finally shared the footage with her legions of fans on Instagram.

Three episodes into “My Brilliant Friend: The Story of a New Name” comes a scene as lovely and understated as it is pointed and bruising, a combination in which the show specializes, especially in this second season. Elena (Margherita Mazzucco), nervous about going to a party at her intimidating professor’s house, rifles through the lavish closet of her best friend, Lila (Gaia Girace).

Although the deal actually closed last year, it’s only now that Zendaya‘s quiet acquisition of a multi-acre compound in L.A.’s increasingly desirable — and expensive — San Fernando Valley has come to light. Tucked away in the hills of celebrity-favored Encino, the nearly 4-acre, $4 million estate boasts a sprawling main house, a guesthouse and pool area.
