It looked like a set from the BBC series Line Of Duty with a blizzard of sticky notes stuck to every wall of the home office. But Nik Bunney wasn’t trying to solve a crime; he was trying to solve himself. Now, more than five years on from that scene at his house in Essex, the City stockbroker-turned-author has used his research to write a book with a compelling message: taking control of your own mental health is as simple as ABC.
“It’s ABCD to be accurate,” laughs the 41-year-old father-of-two. “Authenticity, balance, consistency and discipline.” ABCD: Finding Happiness Through Awareness, Values, Principles, And Actions is designed as a handbook for everyone who’s in the same place that Nik was – feeling overwhelmed, anxious and trapped. Having decided to take stock and change his life, he set about reading everything he could about philosophy, self-help and therapy.
He soon realised similar themes emerged again and again when it came to mental wellbeing. “I’m just a bloke with a story people can relate to – but I am the happiest I’ve been in many years,” he says. “Hopefully this book can provide a framework to help others.” A is for Authenticity Time to assess what you’re in control of and let go of the rest.
“Really, all we have control over are our own thoughts and actions. Not other people’s actions or opinions, not the promotion at work or the weather or the news,” explains Nik. “Many of us do what we do due to external factors, too – parents, friends, peers, colleagues, even social media.

Love The Weekender? Share it with a friend and spread the word!Sign Up For The WeekenderJeff GoldblumA friend of mine (my age) saw this show with her 20-year daughter who’s obsessed with Jeff Goldblum. He’s the perpetually suave actor from “Jurassic Park,” “Independence Day,” “The Fly” and one of my favorites: “The Big Chill.” Apart from being intensely likable, he’s campy and fun and goofy and plays classic jazz with his band, The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. He performs regularly the in Los Angeles area, while taking questions from the audience and telling entertaining stories.During the show my friend went to, he welcomed guest singers who sang classics “Moon River,” and “Don’t Fence Me In” and then joined Goldblum and the band for a cover of Steve Lawrence’s “Bewitched.” Even if you’re not a major jazz fan, seeing him in person perform is worth it for the banter alone. When: Friday July 21st at 8pmWhere: Sagerstrom Center for the Arts | 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626Parking: Click here for details!Buy tickets.Fetch Clay, Make ManThis play – a drama by Will Power – opened in New York in 2013 and according to the New York Times “is about the meeting between two men who achieved renown during different eras in the thorny history of race in America – Muhammad Ali and the actor Stepin Fetchit.” The play takes place in the days leading up to one of Muhammad Ali’s most anticipated fights, when he forms an unlikely friendship with the controversial Hollywood star Stepin Fetchit (born Lincoln Perry).Directed by Debbie Allen, the play explores the improbable bond that forms between two drastically different and influential cultural icons.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter At the end of last summer, Flix Brewhouse faced a dire situation, albeit one that wasn’t unique to the Texas-based movie theater chain. There weren’t any movies to show in August. “We were going to A24 or Briarcliff Entertainment saying, ‘Does anyone have anything we can put on our screens?” recalls Chris Randleman, the company’s chief revenue officer. That’s not the case this summer as exhibitors grapple with a different reality. Can several back-to-back blockbusters succeed at once? Or will the glut of big movies cannibalize each other? Those are the big questions as popcorn season kicks into high gear with the arrivals of Harrison Ford’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” (June 30), Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” (July 12), Greta Gerwig’s neon-coated “Barbie” (July 21) and Christopher Nolan’s atomic bomb drama “Oppenheimer” (also on July 21). All of those films carry big budgets and require outsized ticket sales to turn a profit.

Another is the misconception that washing your hair every day will cause your hair to become too dry,» Fekkai tells ET. The facts: «Hair growth comes from internal factors, such as genetics and overall health, rather than the phase of the moon.
