A teenager who admits stabbing Kennie Carter denied he had ‘made up’ a ‘story’ after claiming he acted in self-defence. The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denies murdering Kennie who died after being stabbed in Stretford, Trafford, on January 22, 2022.
Ten teenagers are standing trial at Manchester Crown Court accused of murder. Jabriel Ferguson, 19, of School Walk, Old Trafford; Latif Ferguson, 18, of the same address; and Rashaun Williams, 18, from Staffordshire; have all been charged with murder and manslaughter.
Seven other boys - all under 18 - have been charged with the same offences. They cannot be named for legal reasons. Kennie was allegedly murdered in 'revenge' following an 'incident' the day before, prosecutors allege.

Boy A, as he is known in press reports, spent a second day in the witness box at Manchester Crown Court giving evidence. He has denied knowing anything about an incident the day before, and said he’d travelled to Stretford on January 22 to ‘meet some girls’.
He told the court that after arriving in Stretford, his co-defendant Rashaun Williams informed him that ‘someone the night before had chased him with a metal pole’.
He claimed that Mr Williams pointed out Kennie in the street, and told him ‘that’s the kid that pulled the pole on me the day before’.
Boy A alleged that Kennie produced a knife and tried to stab him, but lost balance and dropped the weapon. Boy A said he picked it up and claimed that he stabbed him after Kennie began ‘running’ at him.
