A mum who pushed for more tests after having a "gut instinct" over her symptoms was given the heartbreaking news she has terminal cancer. Lisa Dearnley was set to celebrate her fifth anniversary of being cancer free in December, having previously undergone treatment for breast cancer back in 2017.
But the 41-year-old immediately knew something was wrong when she started wheezing all the time and made an appointment with her GP. Doctors initially thought the mum-of-two was suffering from adult onset asthma and she was prescribed an inhaler, before going for an chest x-ray and further tests.
However, when Lisa's oximeter showed she had low levels of oxygen, she was told to go straight to A&E. After being admitted to Arrowe Park Hospital, doctors found she had blood clots - but Lisa had a gut instinct that something still wasn't right and pushed for more tests.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Lisa said: "I said 'I really want a CT scan. I know you're checking for blood clots but I can't shake this feeling that there's a tumour on my lung.'
"My partner Gavin said 'she's just going to be worried at home if you don't.' So they said 'right we'll do a scan for peace of mind.'
"A few hours later they came in and asked if my partner was coming back in and I said no because I said I was being discharged. I knew when they said 'do you want to come into a private room?'
"They said there's a tumour on your lung right where you felt it. I could even have pointed to where I thought it was. I said to Gavin even though I had a feeling that it was, it was still a shock because you don't know if you're just being paranoid.
"I had this gut instinct but at the same time it was a shock because you think 'am I being stupid?'"

She took home three awards for the song at the 1985 Grammy Awards. “Barbie is proud to honor the unmatched career of the ‘Queen of Rock ‘n Roll’ with a @TinaTurner Barbie doll,” Mattel wrote on Instagram. “Collectors and music fans alike can celebrate the music icon with the new Signature #Barbie doll.” Mini Tina joins other doll-sized artists in the Music Series, such as David Bowie and Gloria Estefan.
