MP demands action to protect ‘our daughters’ from Taylor Swift ticket resellers

An MP has called for immediate action to safeguard young people from resellers who are charging exorbitant prices for Taylor Swift concert tickets. Labour former minister Kevin Brennan expressed his dismay at the inflated prices of the American singer's upcoming Eras tour tickets on secondary ticketing sites, stating that as a father of a Swiftie, he was appalled by this exploitation.
During a discussion at business questions, Brennan requested a debate on this issue and questioned why the Government had not taken stronger measures to shield 'our daughters' from these 'rip-off merchants'. He directed his query to Commons leader Penny Mordaunt, seeking clarification on the lack of action taken.
Although Swift's UK and European leg of the Eras Tour is scheduled to begin in May 2024, tickets for her 13 UK dates have already gone on sale this month. This early availability has provided an opportunity for resellers to manipulate prices and take advantage of eager fans.
Speaking passionately in the Commons, MP for Cardiff West, Mr Brennan, expressed his concerns: "Could we have a debate on secondary ticketing because as a father of a Swiftie, and I know the deputy shadow leader (Thangam Debbonaire) is also a mother of a Swiftie, I was appalled to see that within an hour of tickets going on sale for the Taylor Swift concert at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, a ticket was on sale in the lower tier for £3,352 pounds on Viagogo."
He further emphasised the need for governmental intervention: "Why hasn't the Government done more to protect our daughters from this sort of rip-off merchants?"
