A a former mill building is set to converted into a modern space for functions and community use related to a mosque. Plans have been submitted in the past few days to partially demolish and refurbish Prospect Street Mill in Bolton.
The building, just north of the town centre and close to Blackburn Road, Halliwell, is next to the Masjid-e-Noorul Islam Bolton mosque.
The building is the last remaining part of the Prospect Mill complex where the original textile mill was built in 1864. In 1877 mill No 2 was built followed by mill No 3 in 1890.
In 1968 mills No 1 and 3 were demolished followed a few years later by mill No 2. The surviving four-storey building once connected to mill No 2 is the subject of the plans.
A design and access statement supporting the plans has been published on behalf of applicant Zahid Gaurya from the Masjid E-Noorul. It said: “Planning permission is sought for the renovation and refurbishment of the former mill building, currently used as community space, to allow for functions and teaching facilities with a connection to the adjacent Masjid-e-Noorul Islam Bolton Mosque.

“The project proposes the replacement of openings to the existing fabric with partial demolition to allow for better functionality of the building, a single storey rooftop extension and a link to the adjacent mosque.
“The application site is a former mill building constructed of red brick which is currently used for community based functions and events including youth club facilities.
