Manchester City Council are the latest authority in Greater Manchester to approve the Places for Everyone plan to build 175,000 homes in the wider region over the next two decades.
Manchester will build 60,000 homes as it joined eight other Greater Manchester councils in agreeing the modifications made to the Places for Everyone plan, which went through an eight month examination from government inspectors. Another consultation on the modifications will start after this month (October) and go on for eight weeks, Manchester Town Hall heard.
The main modifications to the plan include the boundary changes to housing developments and the removal of the North of Irlam Station site - reducing the loss of green belt land.

The Salford-based site would have provided around 800 dwellings but the impact on green field land was deemed too severe to keep. To better protect green belt land, the sites of Timperley Wedge for 1,700 homes and Elton Reservoir for 3,500 homes had their boundaries altered.
Coun Gavin White, Executive Member for Housing and Development at Manchester Council, said in his update: “Places for Everyone has been through at least five rounds of consultation over many years, it changed its name, boroughs have pulled out, but we are now at the stage where the modifications made in the examination process go out to consultation. It contains some strategic output for the whole of Greater Manchester except Stockport in terms of new housing, jobs and environmental improvements.
