Mindy Kaling Netflix Basketball Comedy Series Adds Five to Cast, Including Chet Hanks and Keyla Monterroso Mejia

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Mindy Kaling‘s new Netflix comedy series set in the world of pro basketball has added five new cast members, Variety has learned. The new cast members are: Fabrizio Guido (“Good Burger 2,” “Perry Mason,” “Mr.
Iglesias”), Toby Sandeman (“Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” “The Game,” “Love Is_”), Chet Hanks (“Your Honor,” “Shameless,” “Empire”), Keyla Monterroso Mejia (“Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Abbott Elementary,” “You’re Cordially Invited”), and Roberto Sanchez (“Queen of the South,” “BMF,” “2 Fast 2 Furious”). They join previously announced series lead Kate Hudson in the show, along with cast members Brenda Song, Drew Tarver and Scott MacArthur.
The untitled series received a 10-episode order at Netflix in June 2021. The official logline for the series states, “When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Hudson) is appointed President of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business.
Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.” Guido will play Jackie Moreno, described as “a popcorn vendor at the stadium where the Waves play, Jackie can’t believe it when he is suddenly thrust into the inner circle of his favorite team. Now he has the opportunity to work his way up the organization from the ground floor.” Sandeman will star Marcus Winfield, said to be “a generational talent.
