The Liberty X star, 44, has been open about her struggle with alcohol addiction over recent years, having gone to rehab in April 2021. Michelle has now been sober for over two years.
With the beginning of a new year looming, mum-of-two Michelle has opened up about how every January she would promise her loved ones that she would quit drinking - only to wind up back on the booze. She told The Sun: "Every New Year, for at least the five years before I quit, I promised myself, and everyone else, that I’d stop drinking. I would swear I’d be sober for January — but by midday on the 1st I’d be drunk again, back on the Bellinis.
I just couldn’t stop." However, the New Year is now a time of reflection for Michelle, as it helps her to recognise how far she has come in her sobriety journey. "Although April is my sobriety anniversary, this will be my third New Year sober. And when I think about it like that, it really is amazing," she said.
Michelle previously opened up to OK!about her addiction always "got the better" of her whenever she promised she'd quit drinking and recalled a time when she was hospitalised after collapsing. "I meant the promises. I really did want to stop.
I always tried, but my addiction got the better of me," she told us. Michelle, who shares children AJ and Faith with husband Hugh, recalled: "One time I was admitted to hospital after collapsing in active addiction. I left the next day feeling great and walked straight to the off licence and bought more vodka.
