Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Chris Brearton is exiting Amazon MGM Studios after a long career at MGM to pursue other opportunities, the company announced on Wednesday. In a memo to staff, Amazon Studios and Prime Video senior vice president Mike Hopkins revealed that Brearton “has decided to leave Amazon to pursue a new opportunity outside the company.” Brearton had most recently served as vice president of PVS Corporate Strategy at MGM+ and MGM Alternative Television.
As part of his exit, the company has restructured some of Brearton’s direct reports: MGM+ which is led by Michael Wright and Josh McIvor, and and MGM Television, led by Lindsey Sloane, will now report to Kelly Day, head of Prime Video International. MGM Unscripted, under Barry Poznik, reports to Brad Beale, head of global content licensing.
MGM corporate strategy head will now report to Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke in the newly created role of Head of Global Strategy and Business Development, Amazon MGM Studios. “Over the past two years, I have been able to witness Amazon become the new and prosperous home to much of the MGM family,” Brearton said in a memo to staff.
“I feel incredibly fortunate to have acted as a steward of the brand, and to have been a part of the team that shepherded this historic acquisition. Invigorated by our dynamic and evolving industry, it is time for me to look forward to my next challenge and to build once again.” Brearton has been in his current role since November 2022, when Amazon created a new corporate structure following the aquisition of MGM, placing most under Salke while also promoting Brearton.
Brearton joined MGM in 2018 after representing the studio for years as a lawyer with Latham & Watkins. As
