Mel B 'calls police after fraudsters pose as her to scam celeb pals on WhatsApp'

Mel B has contacted the police after being impersonated by fraudsters, in a scam which targeted her friends and family. The former Spice Girl, 47, was said to be feeling "violated" by the cryptocurrency scam which aimed to con other celebrities via WhatsApp, with messages about a fake "charity project". The scammers reportedly contacted both her famous friends and family members, asking them to donate money to the project on Binance, a digital currencies platform.
Not only this, but they were also promised the chance to buy Bitcoin at lower rates once they had donated. Many of her contacts raised the alarm, with the cryptocurrency element of the messages arousing their suspicions. It is not known if any of those contacted donated any money.
A source told the Sunday People: "Mel knew nothing of it and called in police straight away. "She feels really violated and angry that someone would do this and claim it's for charity reasons when she does so much charity work herself. "The messages were written as if from her, using kisses and emojis so they were believable." Another source added: "Mel does a lot of work for causes close to her heart so it's doubly upsetting that a fraudster would play on that to try to scam her friends." Mel B's representative declined to comment when contacted by OK!.
