But people reported residents being woken by the explosions and rushing out to their balconies to see what was going on.
Shelley Chuicharoen, a MediaCityUK resident, said the loud blasts woke her up.
She said: "The fireworks were set off just outside the ITV building in MediaCityUK, next to the Coronation Street set. I'm not too sure who set them off, but whoever it was it woke both me and my boyfriend up at 2am.
"We woke up in a shock because the bangs were so loud so we went onto our balcony to see what was happening, only to find fireworks were being set off. It was a surprising display to see at that time of the night.
"I could see a lot of people looking from their windows and some people stepped out onto their balconies. I assume they were all woken up too."
Another resident, Garth Adair, said: "The fireworks lasted for a few minutes, after it died down it sounded like a group of people were shouting at each other.
"I'm not too sure who they were, but this isn't the first time where people have been setting fireworks off in the early hours around here."
The firework curfew is midnight on Bonfire Night, 1am on Diwali, New Year's Eve and Chinese New Year, and 11pm the rest of the year.
