Martin Boyle has revealed his horror Hibs injury was only discovered when he went under the knife.
The Easter Road talisman has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing an operation. Boyle had been included in the Australia squad for the World Cup, but was handed the devastating news that he was being replaced when it became clear he wasn’t going to be fit enough to play.
The decision was taken that the former Dundee man would have surgery in a bid to sort the problem. The forward has twice suffered serious knee injuries before. But after the docs opened him up, it was discovered that Boyle had in fact damaged his anterior cruciate ligament. His club confirmed earlier today that he would be out for the rest of the Scottish Premiership campaign. Boyle hasn’t played for Hibs since the end of October after making his return from Saudi Arabia in August.
He marked his second debut with a last-gasp equaliser against Hearts, but won’t be seen in green and white again until next season. However, he was remaining upbeat despite the blow. And having come back twice before, the 29-year-old is confident he’ll be fighting fit again next year.
Posting on Instagram, Boyle said: “Not the news I expected after an emotional roller coaster of 3 weeks to learn I needed my ACL repaired. Only visible when I needed my op and surgeons done what was best for me!
“ I’ve great support around me and I’ve been through it all before and no doubt be back stronger than ever. Thank you for all the best wishes it means a lot!”
