Margot Robbie channels the 1960s Sparkling Pink Barbie for the Barbie press conference in Seoul, South Korea on Monday (July 3).

Greta told the outlet that it was the scenes they had filmed in Venice Beach when Margot and Ryan Gosling were in their bright neon roller skating looks.
“How Barbie operates in Barbieland is she’s entirely continuous with her environment,” Greta explained. “Even the houses have no walls, because you never need to hide because there’s nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed of. And suddenly finding yourself in the real world and wishing you could hide, that’s the essence of being human. But when we were actually shooting on Venice Beach, with Margot and Ryan in neon rollerblading outfits, it was fascinating because it was actually happening in front of us.”
She then recalled how “people would go by Ryan, high-five him, and say, ‘Awesome, Ryan, you look great!’ And they wouldn’t actually say anything to Margot.”
“They’d just look at her,” she says, adding that it was “just surreal. In that moment, she did feel self-conscious. And as the director, I wanted to protect her. But I also knew that the scene we were shooting had to be the scene where she felt exposed. And she was exposed, both as a celebrity and as a lady.”
Barbie opens on July 21.
FYI: Margot wore a Moschino look.

press tour on a high note. For the VIP photo call following the European movie premiere, Robbie swapped her luxe fur stole-adorned Vivienne Westwood gown for a slinky red mini dress, and it just might be her best red carpet look yet.You might be thinking: What about the glittering black Solo in the Spotlight Barbie replica dress Robbie wore to the LA premiere? Or the pink Day-to-Night Barbie look she wore in South Korea? But there's something magical about a simple, sexy mini dress that blows the other looks out of the water.
Margot Robbie, the Spice Girls were no feminist wannabes. In fact, the two-time Oscar nominee attributes some of her own ideas about feminism — which she and director Greta Gerwig explore in the much-anticipated “Barbie” movie, out July 21 — to the 1990s British girl group.“The Spice Girls changed everything and dictated my version of second-wave feminism,” Robbie, 33, told Rolling Stone.“It’s like, ‘Oh my God, they wear little sparkly dresses and push-up bras and then have a girl gang? That’s what I want to be!’”Growing up in the ’90s, the Aussie-born Robbie also had a pink passion for the Aqua bop “Barbie Girl.” At the urging of the “Babylon” actress, the 1997 hit was included on the “Barbie” soundtrack — reworked as a “Barbie World” duet featuring rappers Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice.“I was like, ‘Greta, how are we going to incorporate this song? We can’t do a Barbie movie and not have a nod to Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl.’ It has to be in there,’” Robbie told a reporter.
There were pop-up cafes, a Forever 21 clothing collaboration and viral Instagram filters galore. Running time: 114 minutes. Rated PG-13 (suggestive references and brief language).

plays the real-life Barbie in the $100 million live-action “Barbie” movie coming to theaters on July 21.Depending on who a Barbie fan believes, however, the genuine, in-the-flesh Barbie who inspired the doll is either the late Barbie Ryan or the now 82-year-old Barbara Handler Segal. The two origin stories could not be more different. Either Barbie exists thanks to one man’s obsession with the “perfect woman” — or because of an apparently sweet story revolving around a mother’s love for her two children. But both come with far darker sides than the innocent child’s toy would suggest, including orgies, sex toys, embezzlement, AIDS, and suicide. The battle over who really inspired Barbie only exploded into the open decades after the doll made her debut at the International Toy Fair in New York in 1959.She was an immediate hit: 11 inches tall, long-legged, slim-waisted, perky-breasted and either blonde or brunette, dressed in a hand-made black and white swimsuit, and soon after advertised on The Mickey Mouse Club.
Margot Robbie is living her dream life as Barbie right now!
Just one week before Greta Gerwig‘s “Barbie” hits theaters, which is sure to be the summer’s biggest movie. And the film boasts a sizable ensemble cast beyond Margot Robbie‘s Barbie and Ryan Gosling‘s Ken.

Ken-ergy. With just days left to go until Greta Gerwig’s hotly-anticipated “Barbie” movie hits theaters, co-star Ryan Gosling has emerged as one of the film’s most effective — and lovably ludicrous — marketing tools.

Even Barbie can become self-conscious.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director Greta Gerwig revealed in a new interview with Rolling Stone that some “Barbie” set visitors made Margot Robbie feel “self-conscious” during filming when they interacted far more with her co-star, Ken actor Ryan Gosling, than they did with her. Gerwig was talking about the time the crew spent filming a rollerblading scene in Venice Beach. Set photos from the scene, featuring Robbie and Gosling in neon outfits, exploded on social media last summer during production. “How Barbie operates in Barbieland is she’s entirely continuous with her environment,” Gerwig said.

In three weekends, Greta Gerwig‘s “Barbie” squares off against Christopher Nolan‘s “Oppenheimer” for this summer’s big box-office battle. So which film will walk away victorious? Both movies boast stacked ensemble casts, but given its soundtrack, premise, and Margot Robbie as its lead, “Barbie” may be 2023’s movie to beat.
