Manchester United have been told they are in pole position to sign West Ham captain Declan Rice.
After emerging as one of the hottest properties in Europe over the last two seasons, Rice was earmarked as a top target for United this summer, despite fears over the price tag West Ham placed around his neck. However, as things played out, United turned their attentions to Frenkie de Jong when Erik ten Hag was appointed as manager.
Casemiro was eventually recruited for an initial €60million from Real Madrid as United finally their addressed long-standing problems in central midfield. But should Ten Hag want to strengthen further in that particular department next summer, the United manager could already boast an advantage when it comes to Rice.

Rice, 23, will only have two years left to run on his contract next summer. As such, the Hammers could find it tough going to hold out for an over-the-odds fee for his services in midfield.
Speaking as part of a promotion for MyBettingSites, former United defender Paul Parker said: "I would say now for Declan Rice that Manchester United could be an even better move for him with the way [Erik] ten Hag and his side are doing at the moment.
"I think we have to rule out Manchester City because they've got Kalvin Phillips now. Liverpool could be interested in him because they keep talking about midfield."
Parker added: "That is an end-of-the-season deal. That is not going to happen mid-season and not in a million years. It isn't going to work but, if you look next summer, I think that is when that one could happen."
