Manchester United are 'interested' in signing highly-rated Chicago Fire midfielder Brian Gutierrez ahead of this summer's transfer window officially opening for business next Wednesday.
That is according to a report by the Daily Mail, which claims that United, who have plans to strengthen their midfield options this summer, have taken a liking to the 19-year-old starlet. The Reds are understood to be determined to recruit a new central-midfielder this summer and want to reduce the average age of the players within that position.
United, despite recruiting both Christian Eriksen and Casemiro last summer, still want to add further quality to their pool of midfield options this summer and have already set about trying to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea. The Reds have agreed personal terms with the England international but are yet to agree a deal with Chelsea.
Nevertheless, their reported interest in Gutierrez is unlikely to impact their interest in Mount or indeed any other big-name midfielder. The Chicago Fire ace, who has a tendency to operate as an attacking-midfielder, is likely to be viewed as a potential signing for the future, opposed to the here and now.

United, though, are reportedly not alone in taking a liking to the USA Under-20 international, as both RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are also said to be interested. Scottish giants Rangers are also being linked with his signature.
However, the report suggests that either Leipzig or Dortmund are more likely to win the race for his signature because Gutierrez could find it 'difficult' to source a work permit in the UK.
