Dean Henderson says he is expected to return from his long-term injury in time for pre-season. The Manchester United goalkeeper has not played since January 14 after tearing his thigh following loan club Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 win over Leicester.
The 26-year-old is out for the season after successfully undergoing surgery for the problem a fortnight ago. The shot-stopper is due to return to his parent club upon the end of his loan spell with his future uncertain.
Henderson unloaded on United for their “criminal” treatment of him over perceived broken promises after securing his loan to the Midlands club.

David de Gea’s No.1 status at United is under threat following a series of mistakes leading to goals this season, most recently in the 1-0 loss to West Ham last Sunday. It’s not clear whether Erik ten Hag wishes to bring Henderson back into the fold next season.
Henderson has now given an update on when he expects to be back on the field following his surgery. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: “All good, [the operation] all went to plan.
"I had a surgery on an ongoing issue and hopefully I’ll be back on the pitch for the start of pre-season."
Henderson - who has played 29 times for United’s first-team, keeping 13 clean sheets - will have until September 1 if he is to secure a move away from Old Trafford.
He made just three appearances last season, one each in the FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League. His most recent appearance for the Reds came in the FA Cup penalty loss to Middlesbrough in February 2022.
