A man in his forties who "hit the motherload" when he found nearly £18,000 in lost savings is urging other people to check if they might have any forgotten pension pots from old jobs. You might think that it would be difficult to lose or misplace £18,000 worth of savings, but army veteran Robert Sullivan is just one of the many people in the UK missing pension savings worth over £26 billion.
It's not uncommon for pension pots to be misplaced, particularly if you've changed jobs or addresses frequently, with three million people estimated to be missing potentially life-changing retirement cash. Robert Sullivan, a 46 year old from Dorset and ex-British Army staff, found himself among these statistics until very recently, the Mirror reports.
Over the past two years, Robert uncovered six old pension pots he didn't realise he had, bolstering his retirement savings by almost £18,000. After leaving the army, Robert worked various contracting roles as an electrician and is presently installing EV charging points around South West England.

Speaking to the Mirror, Robert said: "I've been in and out the army four different times and I've had around 11 contracting jobs since leaving but I've not thought too much about my retirement and my pension. Although it's creeping up, it's still I'd like to think it's still a long way away. I have always banked on my army pension really, and anything else would've been a bonus."
Robert is currently receiving his service pension and the state pension, but he suspected that he might have additional pensions from previous contract jobs. Each of these roles offered a new pension scheme,
