A first edition copy of JRR Tolkien's classic novel The Hobbit has been sold for more than £10,000 after being discovered by chance in a charity shop. The rare book, which tells the tale of Bilbo Baggins' adventures, was found by the manager of the Cancer Research UK superstore in Dundee.

A man has pleaded guilty to killing his neighbour. Tarik Hussein, 28, admitted fatally attacking 56-year-old shop worker Esmaeil Tofigh following an incident in Longsight.
Police said that officers were called after concerns were raised for welfare of a man on Plymouth Grove at about 5.20am on Sunday February, 5. Mr Tofigh was discovered 'unresponsive' on his living room floor surrounded by 'a large amount of blood', an inquest previously heard.
A divorced store assistant, Mr Tofigh was born in Iran. Prosecutor Tim Storrie KC said it was 'incontrovertible' that Mr Hussein was 'suffering from an abnormality of the mind' at the time of the killing.

He pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, during a hearing at Manchester Crown Court on Friday morning. The plea was accepted by prosecutors, and Hussein, formerly of Plymouth Grove, Longsight, is set to be sentenced in August. Further details surrounding the case have not yet been disclosed.
Judge Nicholas Dean KC told Hussein, who appeared in court by video link from Forest Bank prison: "You have pleaded guilty to the offence of manslaughter, your plea to that offence as an alternative to murder is accepted by the Crown.
"The reason being is that you were in a state of diminished responsibility at the time of the killing or Mr Tofigh. I hope that you will be able to be sentenced on August 3.
"I don't know what the appropriate disposal will be."
