Manchester City have confirmed their first exit of the January transfer window as goalkeeper Zack Steffen has left the Etihad on a permanent deal.
Steffen, 28, signed for City in 2019, and made 21 appearances for Pep Guardiola in between loan spells at Fortuna Dusseldorf and Middlesbrough. He underwent surgery in the summer which meant he was unable to leave the club on loan for the first half of the season, and has now completed a return to his native USA.
The goalkeeper has joined Colorado Rapids in an attempt to kick-start his career and regain his place in the US national team squad. He had hoped to be included in the US's World Cup squad in 2022, but missed the cut while on loan at Boro, with his last international appearance coming in March 2022.

City will recoup some of the money they paid Steffen, having spent around £7m for his services when he arrived from Columbus Crew. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but it is understood City are set to receive a nominal fee as part of the structure of the transfer.
Steffen had spoken in March to say he had no plans of returning to City, but his injury meant that he has been without a loan club since the season started. He will join Colorado Rapids, hoping to help them improve on their last-place finish in the MLS Western Conference, with only Toronto FC earning fewer points in 2022.
Before he signed for City, he was named United States MEN's Footballer of the Year in 2018, as well as Columbus Crew Player of the Year in the same season.
