Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri has been praised by fans for raising deaf awareness in the villa. In Monday night’s premiere episode of season 8, the 23 year old dancer and model made her debut on the ITV show as its first ever deaf contestant. On their first night in the villa, Tasha rounded up the rest of her fellow islanders by the fire pit to announce her deafness.
Speaking in the Beach Hut, she said: "I felt like it was the perfect opportunity to get everyone together and be like, 'This is me, this is who I am'." She told them: “Basically, I was born completely deaf… and I wear a cochlear implant in my right ear.” “It doesn’t define me, it's just a part of who I am,” she continued. “It’s my superpower.” Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter. Earlier in the show, the public voted for Gemma to couple up with 27 year old Andrew Le Page, a Dubai-based real estate agent originally from Guernsey. “I think it takes balls,” he said in the Beach Hut after her announcement, praising her for being so brave and candid. And viewers took to Twitter to praise Tasha for raising awareness for the deaf and hard of hearing communities.
“Tasha is so brave for telling everyone that,” one wrote. “Yes! Tasha raising #deaf awareness on #LoveIsland,” wrote another. Another praised the islanders response: “Makes me absolutely happy how supportive the islanders where when Tasha told them about her cochlear implant and being born dead! Amazing to see!” “Everyone being so supportive of Tasha being deaf makes my heart so full,” wrote another.
