Love Island fans have been speculating who could replace Laura Whitmore as host. The Irish presenter, 37, who is set to make her West End debut later this year, announced on Monday night that she is quitting the ITV2 dating show after three series after taking over from Caroline Flack in 2020. Fans of the show were quick to share their views on Twitter on just who should replace her when the next series hits South Africa in January 2023.
And it seems as though this year's winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloglu, who took home the grand prize with Davide Sanclimenti, is one of the frontrunners. "Get @ekinsuofficial on it!! She'd be perfect," wrote one. Another echoed this: "Oooh, make way for Ekin-Su!" "Ekin Su to host After Sun challenge," joked another, with someone else quipping: "If Ekin-Su doesn't host I'm suing." Others pointed to previous Love Island greats, including Maura Higgins and Olivia Atwood, who have both gone on to hosting duties themselves since leaving the villa.
"This needed to happen," tweeted another fan. "We need someone who [was] all about Love Island like Caroline. Laura definitely wasn't and that's okay, but let's have someone who is synonymous with LI.
Give me Ekin Su, Maura, Olivia A, any of the greats!" "Can we finally make Maura Higgins the host now? Please and thanks, ITV," pleaded another. There have also been calls for more seasoned hosts like Maya Jama and AJ Odudu to be given the coveted TV role. "My money's on AJ Ododu or Maya Jama to be the new host," predicted one. "Now it gets interesting Maya Jama has been heavily linked to #bbuk but she's also denied it she would also be a great fit for #LoveIsland," wrote one.
