CBS‘ game show Loteria Loca, which has been airing Mondays since Oct. 2, is coming off the schedule effective immediately after five low-rated airings in the Monday 9 PM time slot, sandwiched between The Price Is Right At Night at 8 PM and an NCIS rerun at 10 PM.
The game show, based on a Mexican format, was slated to move to 8 PM on Nov. 13, with back-to-back NCIS reruns from 9-11 PM. Instead, CBS is switching to a lineup of wall-to-wall NCIS encores Monday from 8-11 PM on both Nov. 6 and Nov.13, leading to the Nov. 14 debut of NCIS: Sydney, the Australian spinoff of the venerable crime drama.
CBS has mounted a big promotional effort for NCIS: Sydney, the only scripted series on its strikes-impacted fall schedule, which has not been previously available in the U.S.
Originally slated for the Monday 10 PM slot, behind an NCIS repeat, the new drama was moved to NCIS‘ longtime Tuesday 8 PM time period to get away from ABC’s simulcast of Monday Night Football.
The two weeks of NCIS across all three hours of primetime on Monday will now be used to plug the NCIS: Sydney CBS debut. Additionally, the offshoot will be followed by an NCIS rerun on Tuesdays.
Loteria Loca‘s shelving is not surprising. Likely hindered by facing MNF, the game show, hosted by Jaime Camil, with Sheila E. as co-host and band leader, never took off and ranks as CBS’ lowest rated and least watched series this fall. Its holiday edition will air sometime in December (date is TBD), with the fate of the remaining produced episodes unclear.
Also unclear is what will happen with the last Price Is Right At Night from the current batch that was slated for Nov. 6.
