Lionel Richie 'broke royal protocol' while meeting Camilla at Buckingham Palace garden party

Lionel Richie made a royal faux pas at the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday as he "broke royal protocol" when meeting Queen Consort Camilla at the event. The 73 year old singing sensation was one of the guests of honour at the event, which was the first garden party at Buckingham Palace to be hosted by King Charles, 74, and Queen Camilla, 75, as monarchs, ahead of their official Coronation on Saturday.
Lionel arrived looking dapper in a morning suit, with his 32 year old girlfriend Lisa Parigi, but it seems that no one told the American singer of the protocols when meeting a member of the British Royal Ramily. The star reached out to shake Camilla's hand before patting her on the arm a few times, but this is a big no-no with a royal - especially one of its most senior.
Traditionally, people meeting the monarch are not supposed to initiate the shaking of a hand, but rather they are expected to wait until a hand is offered by a royal, and touching is not allowed. Camilla took Lionel's friendliness in typically good humour, as she told him: "Lovely to meet you," whilst King Charles took off his top hat when speaking to the Endless Love crooner, who will perform at the Coronation Concert on Sunday.
