Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Netflix’s controversial reality competition show based on its smash South Korean drama “Squid Game” will finally debut in November, and the streamer offered up a very brief glimpse of reality show “Squid Game: The Challenge” on Saturday during its global, virtual Tudum fan event from Brazil. “The world’s most notorious game becomes reality,” the teaser clip says, before showing contestants exiting their rooms and heading to the game of “Red Light Green Light” — featuring the giant, killer doll that in the scripted “Squid Game” swivels its head around and fires gunshots to eliminate players who were moving. The unscripted game show, which was first announced in June 2022, was shot across two studios in the U.K. and produced by Studio Lambert and The Garden. Like the series, 456 contestants were cast (in this case, from around the world) to compete in various challenges based on the Korean children’s games featured on the show, as well as new games. The winner receives a $4.56 million cash prize.
Jem Aswad Executive Editor, Music We say every year that the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction ceremony is the music industry’s best-kept secret — an invite-only, insider combination of a superstar awards show and a family reunion for the tight-knit songwriting and music-publishing community that is in its 52nd year and has never been televised or livestreamed. In fact, we’ve said it so many times that longtime SHOF CEO Linda Moran quoted us in her opening remarks on Thursday night. While the show has had honorees pull out in the past — Jay-Z due to the impending birth of his and Beyonce’s twins, less happily the Kinks’ Ray Davies due to the death of his sister — this year’s event was the first time two honorees canceled, deferring their inductions to next year: the reclusive Sade, who everyone figured had about a 40% chance of showing up, postponed several months ago due to a scheduling conflict, and Snoop Dogg, who pulled out abruptly for undisclosed reasons earlier in the week. But the SHOF is such a star-studded evening that the event was a rousing success filled with great music regardless — and the silver lining was the fact that it was over in a relatively tidy three hours (it often stretches toward five).
With plenty of parties, festivals and other glitzy events, summer is the perfect time to add a little shimmer to skin. While, for some, that means adding a subtle shimmer using a facial highlighter, for others - like former Love Islander Paige Thorne - that means coating skin from top to bottom is a golden glowing shimmer.

Alison Herman TV Critic The true crime industrial complex has grown so unwieldy over the years that the true crime critique is itself a phenomenon, if smaller in scale — the mothership’s opposite, though not quite its equal. On television, such takes run the tonal gamut from “The Investigation,” the somber Scandinavian drama about the real-life murder of journalist Kim Wall, to “Only Murders in the Building,” a silly spoof that takes loving aim at the likes of “Serial.” The new Peacock comedy “Based on a True Story” skews closer to the latter, down to its trio of aspiring podcasters in way over their heads. But even though it swaps Manhattan for sunny Los Angeles, “Based on a True Story” is much more bleak than “Only Murders.” (Creator Craig Rosenberg had a hand in the pitch-black humor of “The Boys.”) Some of that darkness adds to the show’s appeal; more often, much like its characters, “Based on a True Story” spins out of control.

Charna Flam Argentina soccer star Lionel Messi will reportedly join the American soccer club Inter Miami; according to ESPN. The anticipated move follows the conclusion of Messi’s two-year contract with French soccer club, Paris St-Germain. Ahead of accepting the Miami deal, Messi was also offered a deal from Saudi Arabian soccer club Al-Hilal, which would have brought him into the league with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. It was speculated by the BBC, that Messi gravitated toward Miami due to reasons unrelated to soccer, including the lifestyle and the brand deals he would receive, including Adidas and Apple.
Piers Morgan claims Lionel Messi is 'quitting elite football' ahead of his proposed move to Inter Miami - and yet he will avoid the 'scathing' criticism that Cristiano Ronaldo faced when he headed to Saudi Arabia. Ronaldo forced his way out of Manchester United following a damning interview with Morgan that targeted the club and its manager Erik ten Hag. The Portuguese star was widely derided for being a mercenary and taking a mega-money deal to join Al-Nassr, rather than continue at the highest level in Europe.
Soccer superstar Lionel Messi is seemingly heading stateside.
