Lily Allen has shared her top tip when it comes to decorating your home and finding your own sense of interior design style. Lily, 39, who recently opened up about her misplaced resentment towards music legend Sir Elton John, revealed her best interior tip during an episode of her podcast Miss Me? with co-host Miquita Oliver.
In the episode, released on Monday, 13 May, the Smile singer shared how her tip for anyone decorating a room is to begin with choosing a rug and then to make subsequent interior choices based on the rug that they have opted for. “My tip for interior design, get this, is start with a rug,” she began.
The star then went on to build on her statement and added how it all relates to colour and helps when it comes to ensuring that all pieces of decor and furniture are tied together somehow.
“I just think the mistake that people make is with colour. Right? And it’s very hard to decide what colour a room should be, what colour furniture and everything should be and then put a rug in at the end that’s going to match with everything.
“It’s very difficult to be able to do that, and I think if you start with a rug you can see what your colour palette is and you start from there so you pick out a little colour here, a colour there, you know.” As she gave her words of wisdom, the LDN songstress, who lives in Brooklyn with her husband David Harbour and her two daughters Ethel and Marnie, also shared specific things she’d do when pulling a room together. “Maybe do the cornicing in that colour that’s in the border of the rug and you choose two or three colours, or maybe you have the sofa in that colour and that’s always what I do.
Start with the rug and work your way up,” she added. If you want to take a note out of
