The weather in Scotland has finally begun to warm up, and with more and more sunny days on the horizon, many people will be looking forward to that first BBQ of the season.
They're an absolute staple during the summer, but making one common error could put a real dampener on the event, as it could potentially end up costing you hundreds of pounds to fix.
That's according to plumber Tom Watts who has paired up with experts at Magnet Trade to warn Scots about why you should never dispose of your BBQ grease and oil by pouring it down the sink, as it could cause significant and expensive damage.
When it comes to hosting a BBQ, it may seem ideal to get rid of the fatty oils from food by pouring them down your sink but making this mistake just once could mean your drainage system will become blocked.
Tom told Magnet: "Fatty oils disposed down kitchen drains will dry out and solidify causing severe blockages within your pipe work. This puts your sink and any appliance (dishwasher, washing machine, boiler etc) within your kitchen at risk of becoming damaged.
"Once the oils have solidified this means the blockages won’t be removable with a plunger. Requiring a plumber to come out and use expensive machinery to either vacuum or rod the blockages.
"You could pay £250 upwards depending on the blockage/time required to unblock. If pipework is unrepairable due to permanent damage you could be looking at £500+ to renew the pipes completely."
