Streaming has led to a situation where making a new Christmas song feels like a thankless task. If you can't be as immediately popular as Mariah Carey or "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" then you might as well not bother.
Two people who don't subscribe to that admittedly glass-half-full maxim, however, are Lil Tjay and Fivio Foreign. The two NYC artists have joined forces for their own take on a festive tune and dropped "Last Christmas." The song takes its title from the sample used on the drill track, Wham!'s 1986 melancholy classic.
Tjay and Fivio's version is a little sad, too (relationships are tricky) but adds a punchiness and comes with a video in which Tjay opens presents before making his way to the ski slopes. Fivio is nowhere to be seen, with a note explaining that he missed his flight to the shoot.
