A Lidl customer struggling with the rising cost of living has expressed his gratitude after a "kind" man paid for his shopping because his card declined.
Jordan Baker visited the Hayle Hill Lidl, Halifax, on Thursday, March 31 to pick up some essential items. He had recently been struggling with his bills so after he got what he needed and went to the till to pay his card was declined.
The Halifax resident, who has autism and can become highly overwhelmed in certain situation, said: "My card declined and I couldn't remember the pin on the other." To Jordan's surprise, a kind stranger lent a helping hand so he could get his food shop, Yorkshire Live reports.

"I got to Lidl in Halifax around 9pm and did my usual shopping," Jordan said. "After scanning my shopping at the checkout, I've of course gone to pay. That's when I tried my own card and I had insufficient funds.
"I also had my friend's card with me, but I forgot the pin. I then went to call my partner to ask him for the pin again, but that's when a nice gentleman behind offered to pay for the shopping for me. I did politely decline, but he was insistent.
"Of which I thanked him very much for his help - I'd like to extend my gratitude to the kind gentleman. I can't say thank you enough for helping me out in such a stressful situation."
Jordan then "rushed" over to the nearest garage to withdraw some money from an ATM but when he returned to the supermarket the kind stranger had disappeared. While he was grateful for the man's gesture, the incident left him embarrassed and "never" wanting to "leave the house again".
