Liam Neeson’s 27 year old son Micheál Richardson is totally unrecognisable after ditching his dad’s famous surname to pursue an acting career of his own. Micheál is the son of Oscar winning actor Liam Neeson, 70, and the late Natasha Richardson, an acclaimed actress who starred in hits including The Parent Trap and Maid in Manhattan. Despite his acting pedigree, Micheál is keen to make a name in his own right and has ditched the Neeson name to work under his mother’s, much less recognisable, surname.
Micheál’s latest role is as a struggling director who ends up grappling with his mental health after losing the love of his life. The film, On Our Way, first premiered at the Talinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia back in 2021, but after receiving rave reviews is now set for a theatrical release in May 2023. On Our Way also stars Sophie Lane Curtis, 27, who is also the director of the feature, and Micheál’s grandmother Vanessa Redgrave, 86 - who spoke out about her grandson’s decision to drop his father’s surname in a recent interview.
Vanessa told the Daily Mail that Micheál wanted to “hold his mother close to him - because she was a remarkable actress - absolutely remarkable.” Natasha Richardson tragically passed away in 2009 after falling during a beginner ski lesson near Quebec in Canada. She initially thought that it had been a minor accident, but complained of a headache, before her condition worsened and she was airlifted to a hospital in New York City, where she tragically died just days later. At the time, Micheál was just 13 years old and his younger brother Daniel Neeson just 12.
