Lee Johnson insists the data shows Hibs are getting closer to Rangers – but he wants a win to prove it.
The Leith side have run their Govan counterparts close this season after taking a point in last August’s clash at Easter Road before narrowly losing out 3-2 in December at Ibrox. Hibs only have one win in their last 18 games against Rangers but Johnson is adamant there they have a good chance of taking their scalp again.
Johnson, whose side have reignited hopes of finishing third following a run of five wins from seven Premiership outings, said: “It would be a statement win if we got the victory. We have to aim to get closer to the Old Firm. I am big on data and in my interview I presented where Hibs were and where I wanted to take us.
“It’s getting closer to the Old Firm. Celtic are way out ahead and then there is Rangers and then there’s us. It does not always transcend into points but performances and consistency are key and that is nice to see that we are improving on a steady trajectory.
“It’s an opportunity to bridge that gap in a one-off game. We’re on the right track.
"We have a lot to do and individuals have to perform but it is looking good. I now see a difference to a few months ago and we have that resilience factor built up.”
