LCD Soundsystem announce Philadelphia and Boston residencies

LCD Soundsystem have added two new dates to their upcoming Brixton Academy residency. Tickets are available here.The residency is being held to celebrate the “platinum” 20th anniversary of the first time they performed live in London in 2002 at Arthur Baker’s ‘Return To New York’ and Erol Alkan‘s ‘Trash’ parties.The O2 Academy Brixton run will now take place from June 27-29 and then July 1-3, with the extra dates being June 27-28. The dates are the band’s first UK shows in over four years and tickets are available here.Last month the group announced that they will play four nights in a row at Philadelphia’s Franklin Music Hall from March 28-31, and four nights at Boston’s Roadrunner from April 3-6.We’ve added two more dates in London.

Sigur Rós have announced details of a UK and European tour for later this year – check out the full list of dates below.Following the announcement of tour dates in the United States, Mexico and Canada last month, Sigur Rós have now confirmed a lengthy run in the UK and Europe.Kicking off in Portugal on 28 September, the run of shows will take place in Italy, Germany and France before arriving in the UK for four shows, including two nights at London’s Brixton Academy. LCD Soundsystem‘s James Murphy has posted a lengthy update to fans, going into depth on the thinking behind a forthcoming series of mini-residencies to mark their 20th anniversary.Last month the group announced that they will play four nights in a row at Philadelphia’s Franklin Music Hall from March 28-31, and four nights at Boston’s Roadrunner from April 3-6.They have also announced plans for four shows at the O2 Academy in Brixton, on June 29 and from July 1-3. They follow a similar residency-style run of 17 shows at at New York City’s Brooklyn Steel last year.In a social media statement outlining the plans, Murphy expressed his difficulties balancing traditional touring schedules and the recording process. “You invest so much time, energy, and cost into ‘getting ready’ [for a tour] that you wind up touring for ages just to make it worthwhile… then you need a big break again.

Bauhaus have announced their first tour in over 16 years.After breaking up in 1983, Bauhaus reformed and have had a number of different formations over the years. Following a 20th anniversary tour in 1998, the band returned for a performance at Coachella in 2005 before going on to support Nine Inch Nails the following year.Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, Kevin Haskins, and David J officially reunited again in late 2019, playing three shows in Los Angeles.

Jack Antonoff’s Bleachers have announced a London headline show for this summer.The group will take to London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on June 7. Tickets go on sale Friday (March 4) and will be available here.Taking to Twitter to announce the show, Bleachers wrote: “We’re coming to London! Been almost 5 years since we’ve performed for you, the buildup for this one is huge.”The one-off London show is sandwiched between a sprawling US tour which kicks off later this month with a pair of shows in Boston.

LCD Soundsystem appear to be teasing something after logos of the band’s record label, DFA Records, were spotted in London along with slogans reading “You are here”.The lightning bolt logo belongs to DFA, the label co-founded by LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy, and was the same image (and accompanying phrase) that was used to provide hints about the band’s Brooklyn Steel shows in NYC last year. The Brooklyn residency news arrived only months after Murphy said that LCD were “on a full hiatus”.Although unconfirmed, it seems that the band could be due to announce a similar residency in the English capital.“You are here” is a nod to lyrics from the band’s 2002 debut single ‘Losing My Edge’, which was featured on the CD version of their debut self-titled album released in 2005.

LCD Soundsystem played Guardian Angels in a skit in the latest episode of Saturday Night Live (February 26).The band were the musical guests on the show, performing ‘Thrills’ and ‘Yr City’s A Sucker’ from their 2005 debut album. They were joined by John Mulaney as host.During the show, they took part in a skit titled “Subway Churro”, in which a man (Andrew Dismukes) surprises everyone by buying a churro in a random subway station.The SNL cast take on spoofs of Broadway hits to express the peculiarities of New York, including why churros are taboo subway snacks, mole people, subway stabbings and strange liquid on the floor.LCD Soundsystem arrive at the end of the sketch, dressed in Guardian Angels’ gear, proclaiming “We’re the Guardian Angels and if you’re looking for a fight, you’ve gotta go through us!”. The Guardian Angels were a volunteer organisation founded in 1979 to combat violence and crime on the New York City Subway system.They’re met by a Jesus lookalike in a beer helmet, who they then serenade along with the rest of the SNL cast, singing a parody of ‘Superstar’ from Jesus Christ Superstar.
