Laura Whitmore "wasn't having a good time" by the end of this summer's Love Island and is excited to be starting a new chapter, a source has told OK!. The 37-year-old stepped in to host the much-loved dating programme and its spin-off series Love Island Aftersun back in 2020, taking over from Caroline Flack. But on Monday night, Laura announced her decision to leave the ITV2 show, citing "certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed".
OK! can now reveal more on how the star feels about her what's coming up, with a source telling us: "Laura wasn’t having a good time by the end. She’s moving on from TV, she’s looking forward to having a change, it was a lot for her in the end." In terms of who could be stepping into Laura's shoes, the source added: "It will likely be a diverse booking in terms of the next host. Vick Hope could be in the running.” OK! has approached Laura's representative for comment.
Laura began presenting Love Island when her friend Caroline Flack took a step back in 2020. The Celebrity Juice star said she "hopes" she did Caroline proud in her exit announcement. She wrote: "Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love Island.
"There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects." She continued: "I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands. "I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series. I hope I did you proud Caroline," with a love heart emoji.
