Krishnan Guru-Murthy has announced a big career switch, following his time on Strictly Come Dancing.
The 53 year old journalist from Channel 4 News was paired with professional dancer Lauren Oakley on the popular BBC show, but they were voted off earlier this month after losing to Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrington in the dreaded dance-off. However, Krishnan has now revealed that his stint on the show has inspired him to pursue a career in music. He shared that seeing his son Jay, 16, perform at Glastonbury Festival with his band Askew, motivated him to reunite his own rock band after many years apart.
"I got him into guitars and now I'm thinking of getting a band back together," he told The Times. Krishnan has previously mentioned his brief music career, revealing that his old bandmate Tim Hincks introduced him to his wife. "Tim worked with me on a show and introduced me to Lisa, who worked with his wife, Pippa.
Now, much more importantly, we play in a band together. But we don't talk rock'n'roll in front of wives - they don't take us seriously," he joked. The journalist confessed that his life has been completely changed by his time on Strictly Come Dancing.
After being voted off, he shared a heartfelt message: "Look, this has been the most incredible experience. I said it has been life-changing and it genuinely has. I am incredibly grateful to the entire production team, judges, my incredible Strictly family up there.
It's right I am going out this week and I have got to get back to life," Krishnan said. During a chat on the spin-off show It Takes Two, he even shed a few tears as he looked back on his Strictly journey. "No one will miss this show as much as I will.
