“The Kingsman” franchise is an interesting one. The first film shocked a lot of people and became a bit of a hit for filmmaker Matthew Vaughn.
The sequel, though filled with even more stars, didn’t resonate as well with fans and critics. But still, it was pretty popular.
Then came “The King’s Man,” a prequel film that came and went without really making a blip on anyone’s radar. Continue reading ‘Kingsman 3’: Matthew Vaughn Knows How The Film Will Begin & End But Isn’t Sure About Act 2 at The Playlist.

Super Bowl weekend, despite its damper on Sunday business, was frame that could still yield results, even for films aimed at dudes, i.e. 2015 when the 6th weekend of American Sniper drummed up $30.7M, or 2020 when the third weekend of Bad Boys for Life did $17.6M.
As you probably know from this weekend, director/producer Matthew Vaughn is a very chatty man whe’llo reveal quite a few secrets. He already teased that he won’t direct his “Kick-Ass” reboot, but he does have a cast and director seemingly all set and he also revealed that “Deadpool 3” scares him a little bit because it has ideas similar to his “Kick-Ass” movie idea, hmmm.
Filmmaker Matthew Vaughn’s spy film, “Argylle,” is in theaters now, and it hasn’t exactly lit up the box office, but we know the director has ambitious plans for the series. He’s already said that he hopes to connect “Argylle” to the world of his other spy series, “Kingsman.” Late last year, he revealed that he has one more spy franchise in the works that could connect all three into one inter-connected spy universe.
Filmmaker Matthew Vaughn is in the news for several reasons this week. One, his new spy franchise “Argylle” is in theaters now (read our review), and he’s made some comments about “Deadpool 3” that have stoked the excitement of superhero fandom.
It’s fair to say, at this point, we have a basic idea of what filmmaker Matthew Vaughn intends for “Kick-Ass 3,” or a continuation of the “Kick-Ass” franchise, anyhow. The director of “Agylle” and the “Kingsman” franchise has recently gone on record saying that more “Kick-Ass” is on the way and that he hopes to reboot the franchise.
Matthew Vaughn is no stranger to spy films, having previously directed three ‘Kingsman’ movies. But even after a decade of working on those movies, he can’t seem to let the genre go, as his latest film, “Argylle,” is yet another fun romp in the world of superspies.
Sam Rockwell is back on movie screens in Matthew Vaughn‘s latest spy romp, “Argylle,” but what’s next for the actor? A return to a certain MCU role, maybe? Jimmy Fallon addressed rumors that Rockwell will reprise his “Iron Man 2” character Justin Hammer during the actor’s interview on “The Tonight Show” last night. And while Rockwell couldn’t confirm anything, he said he’s “in” if Marvel Studios wants him back.
Earlier this week, “House Of The Dragon” star Milly Alcock landed the role of Supergirl in James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s new and improved DCU reboot. And the actress will star in a standalone film based around the superhero, which …still lacks a director? Strange stuff for the rebooted franchise to do according to “Argylle” director Matthew Vaughn, who’s a fan of Alcock’s but not of Gunn and Safran casting her so early into a film’s development.
“BS!” exclaims Bryce Dallas Howard’s spy novelist Elly Conway when she learns the real identity of the titular secret agent in “Argylle.” For once in the film, her character’s savant-like gift for understanding exactly what the audience should feel tracks. Here, that’s disbelief tinged with disappointment.
Wait, why is Matthew Vaughn on the MCU train? He’s got a Universal “Argylle” spy movie coming out soon and isn’t involved with Marvel or any of the old Marvel/Fox properties. Well, apparently, he knows a little bit about what’s in store, and on a recent episode of BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, he evidently sang the movie’s praises, going as far as to claim it will “save” the MCU.
Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor Ariana DeBose, Boy George and Nile Rodgers have teamed up for “Electric Energy,” the disco-infused bop featured in Matthew Vaughn’s “Argylle.” Rodgers, who produced the track which plays over the film’s end credits, says he got a call from Vaughn asking if he wanted to be involved. Speaking with Variety over Zoom, the musician said although Vaughn sent him a demo track he still asked to see the film. “I have to see the film and have real context because I didn’t want to play blindly.” After seeing the film, his response was, “I was so overly sold.
The cat that is featured in the movie Argylle was on the red carpet for the world premiere… and did you know he’s actually model Claudia Schiffer‘s own cat!
Claudia Schiffer and her cat Chip stole the show at the premiere of “Argylle.” The movie, directed by Schiffer’s husband Matthew Vaughn, premiered over the past week, with a stacked cast that includes Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, and more. Still, no one looked better on the red carpet than Schiffer’s cat, who adorably posed from the inside of its bag. Matthew Vaughn’s latest spy adventure “Argylle” inches closer to its premiere, one important question remains unanswered: Who is Elly Conway? For those unfamiliar with “Argylle,” the film — starring Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Dua Lipa and more — is said to be based on a book of the same name by Conway, an unknown, first-time author. Indeed, the book itself is real, published by Penguin and available for purchase. But in a twist revealed by the movie’s trailer, Conway is also the name of Howard’s character, a bestselling spy novelist who finds herself involved in some real-life espionage.

That film is having its world premiere today in London, ahead of its February 2 U.S. theatrical release through Universal.
While the “Kick-Ass” film franchise has never been a massive blockbuster franchise, it does have a devoted fanbase, especially with those folks who love hard-R superhero stories. And while we knew that Matthew Vaughn and his production company have been working on a new ‘Kick-Ass’ film, we haven’t heard much about what it was going to be.
