In an exclusive conversation with OK!, Big Brother star Chanelle Hayes, candidly discussed her struggles with weight, the impact of online trolls on her self-esteem, and how the cruel comments on her appearance affect her children. Chanelle has had an up-and-down journey with her weight since 2013, fluctuating between dress sizes 6 and 20.
These fluctuations were often driven by struggles with depression and unhealthy eating habits. However, in 2020, she decided to make a significant change and underwent gastric sleeve surgery.
This decision led to a remarkable weight loss of nine stone, resulting in her dress size dropping from an 18 to a 10.
The same year, she also opted for a hair transplant to address issues with hair loss caused by yo-yo dieting. Despite her efforts and transformations, Chanelle has been bombarded with derogatory comments on social media. Cruel remarks like 'talentless,' 'ugly,' and 'fat mess' have become a daily occurrence in her online life.
While Chanelle has developed a resilience against these negative comments and learned to block them out, the same can't be said for her two sons, Blakely, 13, and Frankie, six.
Their well-being is a primary concern for Chanelle. She shared that at school, other children can be unkind to her sons because of her weight, and this has a significant impact on them. “The only time it annoys me is if it affects my children or my loved ones,” she says.
“At school, other kids can be nasty to my kids.
That’s an issue. “It would be good if the school were a bit more supportive, but what can I do? It really does affect them and upset them. It doesn’t happen so much for Frankie, but older kids do say things, which is frustrating.” Chanelle's openness about her experiences
