Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorSteve Cooper, CEO of Warner Music Group for the past 11 years, will step down next year, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal that was confirmed to Variety by a rep for the company.The transition will be a gradual one, the rep emphasized, as the company seeks a suitable successor.Warner is the third-largest major music group, after Universal and Sony, and Cooper has run it with a firm, calm and non-flamboyant hand through the first decade of the streaming era and as it went public for a second time in the early months of the pandemic in 2020. The company earnings were declining at the time of his arrival and he not only reversed that trend but doubled its revenue and embraced new technologies and business opportunities.

The company’s annual “Music in the Air” forecast predicts that a combination of global streaming growth, emerging platforms like TikTok, the revival of the live music market and the ongoing strength of vinyl sales will drive the recorded music industry revenues to $52.3 billion by 2030, a $7.5 billion boost over last year’s prediction and more than double last year’s IFPI revenues of just under $26 billion.It is bullish on publishing as well, predicting that revenues will rise to $11.6 billion in 2030, up a cool billion from last year’s prediction for the year.

The actor was honored Sunday with the MTV Movie & TV Comedic Genius Award and his speech was equal parts hilarious and sentimental. As a nod to his iconic  role, Black somersaulted onto the stage in a full panda costume. “I don’t deserve this but I will take it,” Black said, prompting overwhelming applause from the crowd. The actor went on to jokingly question why he would be receiving the Comedic Genius award, «Are you kidding? For what? my sweet dance moves on TikTok? What are we talking about? It’s ridiculous!” he said.Then Black emotionally thanked his fans and family who got him to this point. “Thank you, MTV.

Kevin Hart is once again taking some inspiration from his own life for his latest series, “True to Size.”The comedian is developing the half-hour comedy for Peacock with Dan Levy, who will write and showrun. Here’s the premise for the series: Before Kevin Hart was the biggest comedian in the world, before his movies grossed over a billion dollars, and before he was a mogul, he was a lost 20-year-old in Philly working at a sneaker shop in a 90s mall — a job he didn’t really want and only took to make his mom happy and keep him out of trouble. However this job would eventually change his life forever when the store manager convinces him to try stand up at an open mic.   Set in 1998, “True to Size” will follow 20-something Kevin after he stumbles into a new job selling sneakers at Sneaker World, and the family he makes out of its crew of b-team misfits who are all equally as lost on the path to “figuring out” life in their 20s.  Hart will executive produce alongside Levy, as well as Doug Robinson, Bryan Smiley and Mike Stein.
