Keir Starmer has said helping boot out Humza Yousaf from office will be one of his early goals as a Labour Prime Minister.
The Leader of the Opposition said making progress on pro-Scotland policies would be a “direct threat” to the SNP as he backed Anas Sarwar to become the next First Minister.
Starmer made his comments in an exclusive interview with the Record at the Scottish Labour conference in Glasgow.
A general election is months away and polls show Starmer is in line for Downing Street.
However, Sarwar is focused on a Starmer Government hitting the ground running to help with his bid to topple Yousaf in 2026.
The Scots Labour leader believes a successful Starmer administration will be a springboard to a Labour Government in Edinburgh.
“I share that goal,” Starmer said. He’s absolutely right to say that.
“The First Minister says at the next general election 'send a message'. Anas says, and I say, send a Government. Send a Government that can speak for Scotland, change things in Scotland. There will be a fundamental difference with a UK Labour Government for Scotland."
Starmer promised he would deliver for Scotland in his Government’s early months on green energy.
“We can straight away start working on our plans for 50,000 jobs here in Scotland. We can straight away start on our plans for the energy transition we need. That requires GB Energy, a publicly-owned company.
“What a symbol of putting Scotland at the heart of a changed United Kingdom.
He said scrapping the controversial non-dom tax status would give a Scottish Government led by Sarwar extra cash to reduce waiting lists:
“A practical, powerful example of the change that can be brought around if we have a UK Labour Government.”
