There’s nothing worse than spending ages perfecting your makeup, only to step outside and instantly feel it starting to slide in the summer heat. Whilst the sun can work wonders for clearing your complexion and giving you a radiant glow, it can play havoc with your favourite beauty looks, leaving you constantly correcting and reapplying.
From fighting your skin’s natural oils, to dealing with sweat, stickiness and sunlight, there’s a lot for your makeup to be contending with, and we’re sure you have better things to be doing than constantly dabbing at your makeup. So, to help you keep your face looking fresh and dewy, rather than shiny and smudgy, we’ve come up with five easy ways to help you keep your face in place, no matter what the British weather throws at you.
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate There’s only so much your makeup can do by itself, which is why preparing your skin is key to giving it a fighting chance. A build-up of dead skin, oil and left over products can make your skin harder for your makeup to grip onto, not to mention leave you with an uneven skin texture that means it doesn’t apply as well as it could be.
Exfoliating two or three times a week – depending on your skin type and the strength of exfoliator you use – can help clear out your pores and give you a smoother, softer skin texture, which helps your makeup apply more evenly and stops it from clinging onto drier patches. If you really want to step up your exfoliation routine, consider giving dermaplaning a whirl, which sloughs off the top layer of dead skin and peach fuzz for an extra-smooth finish.
