Kate Middleton has admitted she was once left absolutely "mortified" by her dad at Wimbledon after he became confused and called a player by the wrong name. Speaking to the BBC in 2017, the Duchess of Cambridge, 40, revealed the embarrassing moment came when she had attended the historic sporting tournament with her parents, Michael Middleton and Carole Middleton. The Middleton family had just watched American tennis player Pete Sampras play and were walking away from their seats when they walked past former British number one Tim Henman.
However, it appears that whilst Michael had tried to play it "cool" he accidentally muddled up Tim's name, instead calling him Pete. Kate told the BBC: "My father is not going to appreciate this, but we were walking past Tim Henman and we had just seen Sampras play. "My dad said very coolly: 'Hi Pete'.
I was mortified!" Luckily, the Duchess was able to show her face at Wimbledon again and it's a good thing too because the Middleton's are huge tennis fans. Kate has been known to attend with Carole, Michael and her sister Pippa Matthews. The mum of three is also the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Kate became patron for the club back in 2016, after taking over from the Queen, who had previously held the title for over six decades.
Attending on Tuesday, she wore a green and purple ribbon, in a nod to her role with the club. However, her most recent trip saw her attend with husband Prince William and although her parents were present they were unable to sit together. But that didn't stop Kate's mum, Carole, from leaving a smile on her daughter's face.
