Kate Forbes has given birth to a baby girl.
The Scottish Finance Secretary and her husband, Ali MacLennan, announced the birth of their daughter, Naomi MacLennan today. The tot was born in Raigmore Hospital in Inverness during the evening of Thursday, August 4, weighing seven pounds and 13 ounces.
Her delighted parents have shared images of the tot wrapped in the same blanket that Kate was delivered in 32 years ago. The couple warmly thanked midwives and nurses who helped to deliver the new addition to their family.
The MSP said: "Baby news! Introducing little Naomi Maclennan, who arrived in the world last Thursday, August , 2022, weighing 7.13.
"I would like to record my most sincere thanks to the midwifery and nursing team at Raigmore for all their help. They were with us every step of the way, regularly going beyond the call of duty in their care and compassion for both me and Naomi. They are absolute legends.
"Pregnancy, labour and the early days with a newborn aren't easy (I won’t post the feeding-through-tears pics!). But access to such excellent NHS healthcare in the community and at the hospital has made all the difference to me and the rest of the family.
"It’s been hard not to think about pregnant or new mothers in other parts of the world right now, particularly those escaping war zones like Ukraine or facing horrendous distress in Afghanistan. My prayer is that little girls around the world, like Naomi, grow up in a world of greater peace and security."
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was among the Scots politicians to congratulate the couple on their new arrival.
She said: "Lovely news. Welcome to the world, Naomi - and many congratulations, Kate and Ali."
